Police are investigating after a newborn baby girl was found to have suffered a broken leg after she was taken to hospital.
Police said they were notified that a 3-week-old Hutt Valley baby had been brought into hospital with an “unusual” fracture by her family on December 2.
Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Wescott said police are asking the public for information on how the infant’s injuries were suffered.
“The baby girl presented with a broken leg, which appeared an unusual injury for such a young baby,” Wescott said.
He said the investigation so far has uncovered “contrasting narratives” on the circumstances surrounding the break.
Wescott said the baby’s condition was improving.
Police said if you can help to contact them via 105, quoting file number 251202/5632.
