Police are investigating after a nude man wearing only a mask was spotted walking through a popular North Shore bush this morning.
An early morning dog walker said they encountered the man, wearing nothing but a camouflaged mask, in Le Roy’s Bush on Onewa Rd in Birkenhead.
The bush is home to a walkway popular among families.
In a post shared to a local community group, the local said he had been walking his dog and the sighting had “freaked” him out.
He said the nude man told him to “go away”.
Kaipātiki Local Board chairperson Danielle Grant said it was a “very unusual” situation.
She said they would be working closely with the police to understand what had taken place.
Grant said today they were holding one of many meetings with police on community safety over the rising rough sleeper rates in North Shore and they would be discussing the incident there.
She said the best thing someone can do if they come across something similar is to call 111.
A police spokesperson confirmed a report had been made at 6.30am and an investigation had been opened to find the naked walker.
