Pilots want to see more from a review of airport security.

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Authority are considering extending screening at airports to include aircraft with as few as 19 seats.

Captain Rob Torenvlied, technical director for the Air Line Pilots' Association, is delighted with the review.

But he says screening needs to extend beyond passengers, pilots and cabin crew.

"The people that work on the aircraft, caterers, the loaders, the engineers, those people are actually not screened. So it's a very oddball situation that we currently have."

Captain Torenvlied says New Zealand is lagging behind the rest of the world, and doesn't comply with the guidelines provided by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
