Winston Peters is back from the Parliamentary Rugby World Cup, patting himself on the back for his role as media manager of the team.
The New Zealand First leader liked the role and told journalists he was successful at it even though few back here knew they'd lost the cup.
"What I did was make sure I kept them away from the prying eyes of people like you and it sounds like I've been successful," he quipped to journalists. Â
Peters went on: "All around London they knew about it within a matter of minutes, so why didn't you know?"
He's said he didn't report on their performance because it was positive and he thought the media wouldn't be interested.
Peters labelled their loss a "jack up" explaining that winners, Australia, were in a pool of inferior teams and ended up taking the cup on points without a playoff against New Zealand. Â
