One person has died after a home went up in flames in an inner Christchurch suburb.

Police confirmed the person’s death following the blaze on Korimako Lane in Sydenham this afternoon.

Police said they were called to assist Fire and Emergency New Zealand at the property around 4pm.

“One person was transported to hospital in critical condition, where they sadly passed away,” police said.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the fire are ongoing.
