A New Zealand couple who worked for Jeffrey Epstein may face a potential subpoena to appear before a “truth commission” into the late sex offender’s activities, a New Mexico lawmaker says.
Among the millions of files related to the late child sex offender unsealed last month were revelations showing New Zealand couple Brice and Karen Gordon managed his properties during the period prosecutors say he sex trafficked women and girls.
The couple are not accused of any offending through their association with Epstein.
The Herald revealed the Gordons managed his infamous Caribbean island, but now attention has turned to the pair’s role at Epstein’s New Mexico ranch, the site of alleged offending by Epstein.
The Gordons worked as property managers at the ranch, living there at various times between the early 2000s and Epstein’s 2019 death, according to now-public documents.
The property, called Zorro Ranch, is a vast remote compound, described as having a network of cameras, and is alleged to be a site where Epstein and co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell abused and trafficked teenage girls.
But unlike Epstein’s other properties, there is no public record of Zorro Ranch being raided by the FBI. A previous investigation by then-New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas in 2019 did not result in any charges being filed.
New Mexico state legislators believe the matter has not been fully investigated, and are moving to establish a “truth commission”.
New Mexico State Representative Andrea Romero believes questions need to be answered about what went on at the compound, and is heading up the investigatory committee to do so.
She told the Herald the Gordons are among a handful of people deemed of the highest interest to be sought to testify on their possible knowledge of what took place at the property.
“They will absolutely be on a list of people of interest based on everything we do know about them today and in the hope that we can find them,” Romero said in an interview with the Herald.

She said the ranch had been described as “the Playboy Mansion of Santa Fe” by local law enforcement.
“It’s been alleged that horrible atrocities were taking place in our community,” Romero said, and she and her colleagues have committed to leaving “no stone unturned” in investigating it.
“We need to hear from them,” she said.
“If they were involved with his dealings over that amount of time... not only do we need to know what their involvement was very clearly, we also need to know what they know,” Romero said.
She said the couple’s reported disappearance since Epstein’s death was “alarming”, and the couple would likely be ordered to appear before the commission via a subpoena.

An FBI electronic communication released within the latest tranche of Epstein files suggests Brice Gordon was interviewed by federal investigators at Zorro Ranch in August 2007.
The document references notes from the interview with Gordon, but those notes do not appear to be included in the files released publicly by the Department of Justice.
The truth commission is yet to commence, but a resolution last week to establish it received unanimous bipartisan support. Romero told the Herald the budget had been passed through the House to fund the Truth Commission.
Planned to be operational from April, Romero said it would run as a temporary, non-judicial body with videoed depositions and lawyers conducting interviews with the goal of providing a platform for victims’ voices and holding perpetrators accountable.
Attempts by the Herald to contact the Gordons for comment have been unsuccessful.
