The oyster season starts today and runs until the end of August, unless the annual harvest limit is reached first.
Last season 13 million oysters were harvested.
Barnes Wild Oysters general manager Graeme Wright says all the boat crews are excited to get out on the water.
"All the boats are geared up and ready to go, and the factories are ready to go."
Wright says conditions are looking good for the beginning of the season, and expects the first of the year will be eaten today.
"All going to plan, we'll open some oysters on Sunday afternoon."
