Priceless items stolen by opportunist thieves.
Victoria Police are looking for a New Zealand soldier's Gallipoli medals stolen in transit from Australia.
They were taken when a mailbag sent in February from Melbourne to Dunedin was cut open.
The medals were taken from their package, which was then taped up, and sent on.
The medals are those of Herbert George Garratt, who survived serious injuries in the campaign.
RSA national president Barry Clark isn't impressed.
"This is particularly sad as we're about to remember those same people who went away to Gallipoli 100 years ago."
Barry Clark says it comes as interest in family war memorabilia is at an all time high.
"We would have families coming in to hand medals to the RSA, now we get people coming in and looking for their relatives' medals."
