One person has died after a motorbike crash in Pukekohe, South Auckland.
Counties Manukau District Commander Superintendent Shanan Gray said police were searching for a stolen motorbike in the area when officers spotted it being ridden along Helvetia Rd about 12.20pm.
The police performed a U-turn, trying to signal the rider to stop; however, they sped off.
Police then lost sight of the vehicle, Gray said.
“A short time later, another police unit patrolling the area has located the bike crashed on McShane St.”
The rider died at the scene.
The road remains closed as investigations continue.
“We are also working to support those affected and their families, as well as our staff who were involved.”
Gray said police were appealing for witnesses to the event or anyone who had been in the area beforehand.

Auckland Transport posted an alert advising residents McShane St, near Beatty St, is now closed.
“Avoid this area or expect delays with diversions in place affecting all traffic, including bus services.”
