A person is dead and several others are seriously injured after three cars and a light truck crashed near Whangarei.
The accident happened on State Highway 1 in Mata, north of Ruakaka shortly before 5pm on Sunday, a Fire Service spokesman said.
Diversions are in place at SH12 heading north and Mangapai Road heading south.
The serious crash unit is investigating.
