Ngaruawahia is the latest town set to lose a local bank branch, and it almost certainly won't be the last.
ANZ has confirmed plans to close branches, including one at Ngaruawahia, just north of Hamilton.
In a statement, the bank said the decision is being made after careful consideration.
It said all staff at the bank will be offered the choice between another role or severance pay, and will receive relocation costs if they have to relocate.
ANZ said there could be more branch closures in the future, as more customers switch to mobile and internet banking.
FIRST Union, who represent bank workers, say ANZ is looking at two more closures.
FIRST Union national organiser Tali Williams argues over-the-counter transactions have only decreased six percent in the last two years - not substantial enough to warrant all the closures.
