The Christchurch City Council's dog control policy is set to be signed off this week with only minor changes following public submissions.
The bylaw would allow dogs into areas like Cathedral Square, Cashel Mall, New Regent Street and New Brighton Mall, but would also see owners fined $300 for not having something to pick up their pooches poo.
The council received more than 250 submissions on the bylaw, with some people asking for greater controls and others arguing that restrictions should be lifted.
A report is heading to council on Thursday, recommending the bylaw go through largely as it was proposed.
The recommended changes are a new definition of effective control, clarification around needing a license to own more than two dogs on small properties and a new dog registration category for farm dogs.
