Police are welcoming a new campaign to teach international students about staying safe while they're studying in Auckland.
It's almost a year since six young Asian students were viciously assaulted in a spate of racist attacks.
The Police have helped council business agency ATEED launch its new Safety in the City campaign for the latest intake of international students.
ATEED's International education manager Henry Matthews said international students deserve to be safe.
He said they contribute to the workforce and city culture, but also play a valuable role in encouraging family and friends to visit and invest in Auckland.
Superintendent Haumaha said Auckland is a comparatively safe city by global standards, but some international students do encounter violence and crime.
He said students need to know Police and community groups are on hand when things go wrong.
The campaign will include bilingual videos, with advice for how students can stay safe while they're living here.
