A giant fruitfly hologram is set to greet international travellers at Auckland Airport, in a bid to spread the importance of biosecurity.
The Ministry for Primary Industries will trial the Wellington-made holographic technology for six months.
MPI detection technology manager Brett Hickman said the hologram shows a fruitfly entering the country on a piece of fruit, tucked inside a suitcase.
He said the hologram then illustrates the damage the fruitfly could do to New Zealand's fruit sector.
"We wanted to be one of the first down this part of the world to try something that's going to catch people's attention and a hologram is something that will do that."
