UPDATED: 1.55pm The public's being told there's no risk to health after the larvae of an exotic mosquito was found at Auckland Airport.

Last week larvae of the Aedes mosquito was captured in a trap.

It can transmit diseases including Yellow Fever, Dengue Fever and the Zika Virus.

But the Ministry of Health's acting director of public health Dr Stewart Jessamine said it's important to note it was only larvae, not the full mosquito, that was found.

"The larvae are interesting to find but they're not particulay dangerous of themselves. They cannot transmit any of these infections."

The larvae were captured in a biosecurity trap near the international baggage area.

The Ministry of Health said the larvae were positively identified four days ago and extra traps were set up.

No further larvae or mosquitos have been found.

There have been 75 confirmed and probable cases of Zika in New Zealand this year.

The Ministry of Health said the majority of patients treated have travelled to Tonga and Samoa during the incubation period.

Only one person had not travelled overseas and contracted the disease.

That's a woman who tested positive after her husband returned from overseas with the virus.
