A young woman who was last seen about 1am today with a group of men near a central Auckland train station has contacted her family.

Her father Tony told the Herald his daughter Becky Davies made contact with her family just before 7.30pm tonight after a desperate search.

She was safe and well.

Tony said his daughter was alerted to the family’s concerns by the Herald’s story.

“It would be unlike her to have gone off with these guys in the first place, you know, it’s drummed in to stick with her friends.”

Tony said he was first alerted to her disappearance after her flatmate made contact with their family this afternoon.

Davies’ sister earlier posted on social media saying the 21-year-old newly qualified nurse was last seen about 1am.

“She was last seen near Britomart with a group of about five men in their mid-20s.”

The sister said a missing persons report was filed with police and she asked for any information that could aid the search for Davies.

“We are very concerned for her wellbeing.”

The post has since been updated to say Davies made contact with her family in Nelson.

Police said they received the report of her disappearance about two hours ago and had been making initial inquiries.
