Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was shot dead in South Auckland. 

Emergency services were called to Balfour Rd, Manurewa about 11.10pm last night to “reports a man had been shot”, Detective Inspector Karen Bright said. 

“Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene ... [and] police have launched a homicide investigation.” 

Cordons remain in place while police examine the scene, said Bright, of Counties Manukau CIB.

“Residents can expect to see an increase in police presence as they make inquiries. Police believe there is no ongoing risk to the public.” 

A post-mortem would take place tomorrow, she said.
