A man has turned himself into police after a car ploughed into a Titirangi cafe in west Auckland last night.

The crash occurred around 8pm when a car mounted the pavement and struck a stunned diner before continuing into the cafe.

The driver then reversed from the wrecked wall of the Hardware Cafe and fled the scene.

A customer was taken to Waitakere Hospital with a dislocated knee.

A 19-year-old man turned himself in to the Henderson police station in the early hours of this morning.

He has been charged with careless or inconsiderate use of a motor vehicle, and failure to stop or ascertain injury after a crash.
