- Twenty-nine weather watches and warnings have been issued across the country for the coming 25 hours as an atmospheric river stretching from the sub-tropics will inundate the upper half of the North Island and the top of the South Island. A severe thunderstorm watch is also in place across much of the top half of the North Island.
- Flooding is expected across many regions with local authorities on high alert, including in Tasman District where internet, cellphone and 111 calls across Golden Bay are out after a network outage. Chorus says approximately 350 copper connections and 800 fibre connections are affected, with technicians working to identify the cause of the outage.
- People in Marlborough are advised to avoid all non-essential travel as rain hits the region. There is a risk of flooding from Pelorus Bridge to Canvastown which could close SH6.
- Heavy rain warnings have been issued across the already saturated Nelson-Tasman areas, where a state of civil emergency has been extended by a further seven days. Chris Brandolino from Earth Sciences New Zealand said Nelson and Blenheim may see around a month's worth of rain in the next 48 hours. Residents have been urged to make a plan and evacuate early.
- Heavy rain warnings have also been issued for Bay of Plenty from late morning and lasting until 10 tomorrow at the latest. Farmers with stock on low-lying land beside the Rangitāiki River, and upstream from Te Teko, were urged to move to higher ground.
- Auckland doesn't escape the deluge with the fiercest conditions hitting after lunch. Heavy downpours, thunderstorms and gusts of 100km/h are also forecast to batter the region. Motorists have been warned of potential lane closures or reduced speeds on the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
- Snow is also expected to fall on central Canterbury and central Otago across the day with a heavy snow watch and road snowfall warnings in place.
