A life coach has been arrested and could face life imprisonment after Customs allegedly found more than 20kg of meth in his checked luggage at Auckland International Airport.

The 36-year-old man arrived from Denpasar, Bali on flight NZ291 earlier today, allegedly carrying 20.28kg of the drug.

He has been charged with importing a class A controlled drug, namely methamphetamine.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Manukau District Court tomorrow morning.

According to the charging document, he has no fixed abode.

Customs and police have been approached for comment.

The New Zealand Drug Trends Survey 2024 showed the average price of a gram of meth was $360 in 2024.

This arrest comes just days after a real estate broker was accused of smuggling drugs into NZ.

The 25-year-old woman was arrested at Auckland Airport on Sunday and charged with importing 4kg cocaine.

Customs said she arrived on a flight from Santiago, Chile, and was referred for a baggage search during processing.

She had allegedly tried concealing cocaine in two suitcases.

“After a detailed examination of the suitcases, officers found the drugs concealed inside the panelling,” a Customs spokesperson said.
