Masteron locals can expect to see more police tomorrow with a wave of gang members expected in town for a funeral.
Police have warned attendees there is to be no gang insignia worn in public, nor any threatening or intimidating behaviour
“We anticipate an influx of gang members travelling into Masterton from across the Wairarapa and other regions to attend the event,” said Acting Wairarapa Area Commander, Inspector Simon De Wit.
“Officers will be actively monitoring the situation and will respond swiftly to any issues that arise.”
De Wit referenced legislation prohibiting any gang insignia in public, which came into effect in late 2024.
“Any reports of unlawful behaviour will be dealt with appropriately,” he said.
He encouraged anyone who witnessed illegal activity to contact police immediately on 111.
Non-urgent matters can be reported via 105, either online or by phone.
