The man who spent three days up a kauri tree in Titirangi in Auckland wants the country to join him in protecting our native trees tomorrow.
Michael Tavares is calling it a national day of action to save the Resource Management Act.
He acknowledges the support he got for spending 81 hours in a kauri shows that kiwis care very deeply about our trees.
"When I came down from the tree, I started getting messages from people all over the country who were experiencing similar blocks in their communities, not being heard."
Tavares says he's called for a national day of action so communities can be heard on the issue of tree protection.
"It's part of our national character. These trees define us as New Zealanders, and we'd like to see stronger leadership on tree protection in this country."
Michael Tavares pleaded guilty to trespass in the Waitakere District Court on Friday.
