Hawke's Bay author Tobias Buck has won the coveted Katherine Mansfield prize at this year's BNZ Literary Awards.
The winemaker's story 'Islands in the Stream' centres on a character who is trying to understand their place in the world.
Judge Charlotte Grimshaw says it is the most original story in the competition.
The prize is worth $10,000 to the winner.
