A Christchurch carer for the elderly says 'granny dumping' at hospitals isn't just a problem over holiday weekends.
Concerns were raised by a doctor at Auckland City hospital over Labour weekend that families were dropping frail people off at hospital with minor illnesses so they could go on holiday.
The carer says she knows of many cases where older family members are literally dropped off at Hospital because of lack of information on care available.
"People dropping people off and just expecting the staff to see them the whole way through the process, when everyone knows how short-staffed hospitals are, it's something that needs to be talked about."
