Passengers on a commuter ferry found themselves part of a dramatic rescue last night as a woman was pulled from the water near Auckland Harbour Bridge by their crew.

The 8.25pm Fullers service had been heading to Hobsonville from Auckland city when “our captain spotted a person in the water”, a passenger told the Herald.

“The person was brought on board, and we turned around with a very quick ferry ride back to Auckland.

“All credit to our captain and the crew ... what a night.”

A Fullers360 spokesperson thanked the boat crew and praised their quick and professional response.

“Their swift actions, care and teamwork helped ensure the individual was rescued and brought to safety,” the spokesperson said.

“We’re incredibly proud of our crew for stepping in and responding so calmly.”

The spokesperson said emergency services were contacted.

“Out of respect for the individual’s privacy, no further information will be shared at this time.”

The passenger on the boat said the person was transferred into an ambulance.

Hato Hone St John said it was notified of a water related incident in Auckland Central at 9.35pm and responded with one ambulance.

“Our crew assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Auckland City hospital in a moderate condition.”
