
A man has been charged with murder in relation to the death of a 6-month-old baby in the North Island town of Foxton.
Emergency services were called to a property on Seabury Ave on June 29 after a baby was found with critical injuries.
The child was airlifted to Starship children’s hospital in Auckland but died on July 5.
Horowhenua Mayor Bernie Wanden previously described the news as “very sad and tragic”.
Police arrested a 25-year-old man in Tauranga today.
He is due to appear in the Tauranga District Court on Wednesday charged with murder.
In a statement, police said they would continue to support the baby’s family through this “incredibly distressing time”.
“Police have undertaken a thorough and diligent investigation and we are pleased to put someone before the courts to be held to account for this tragic death.”
