The restoration of defence force barracks at Fort Takapuna in Auckland has begun.
Local iwi from Devonport blessed the site this morning.
The two barracks at Narrow Neck were built to house military personnel during World War two, they'll be restored in keeping with their heritage value.
After work is finished - hopefully by March next year in time for commemorations of the Battle of Passchendaele - they'll be available for community groups to use.
