Passengers on flights in and out of Auckland Airport have faced lengthy delays after a worker suffered a “severe” injury.
Travellers on at least one flight from Auckland to the South Island were taken off their plane after sitting on the tarmac for nearly an hour.
The Herald understands the passengers have been told a worker suffered a “very severe injury who cannot be moved”.
An Auckland Airport spokesperson said Airport Emergency Services responded to a medical event this morning involving an airport worker.
Two domestic flights experienced delays, and normal airport operations have now resumed, they said.
This situation meant that all the luggage carts travelling on the tarmac to the planes were blocked.
The incident has impacted both arrivals and departures.
Air New Zealand and Hato Hone St John have been approached for comment.
More to come.
