No one has been hurt, but there is a lot of damage.
A Chinese takeaway shop in Wellington was completely gutted in a fire this morning.
Firefighters got word of the fire at the Cannons Creek shopping centre in Porirua at around 7.30am, and nine fire trucks were sent to deal with the blaze.
Fire commander John Devereux said when they arrived at the scene the shop was well alight.
"It took about an hour to contain and extinguish the blaze. The shop was just totally gutted, it was severely damaged, and the fire extended through to the upper floor, which is used as a community centre and a church."
He said they're still investigating what caused the fire but they don't believe it's suspicious.
"We're tending toward the theory that the deep fryers may have been left on, or something was left on, overnight."
No one was hurt.
