Fire crews have put out a blaze in the Wellington Basin.
Wellington Fire Station's Senior Officer Andrew Walker said the two crews that attended the fire were able to contain it within minutes of arriving.
He said they arrived to find about 250 square metres of scrub well alight, with the fire beginning to extend into the pohutukawa trees.
Andrew Walker said it took about an hour before it was fully extinguished, but the burnt out area contained only flax and toe toe bushes.
He said they don't know what sparked the blaze, but suspect it was a tossed cigarette.
