Residents were evacuated from a West Auckland rest home this morning after an electrical fire.Â
A Fire and Emergency spokesman said the fire was contained to one room at Avondale Lifecare and had been extinguished by about 9.30am.Â
Twenty-two residents of one area of the rest home had been evacuated and remained outside the property while fire-fighters ventilated the building.Â
Five fire trucks responded to the fire and remained at the property. St John also responded with two ambulances to the scene.Â
A section of Rosebank Rd, between Great North Rd and Ash St, has closed while emergency services respond.Â
Avondale Lifecare is a rest home and hospital that offers dementia and medical care in the 67-bed facility.Â
The suburban facility is nestled off a main road next to the sprawling Avondale Jockey Club.Â
More to come.Â
