Drama at the Styx Mill refuse station in Christchurch this morning.
At around 9.30 this morning staff noticed smoke coming from the back of one of the compactor trucks.
Fire communications shift manager, Andrew Norris says the station was closed to the public, the contents of the compactor emptied onto the ground and the fire extinguished.
The refuse station is now open again.
