Work is under way to restore fibre to a large part of Tauranga after a feeder cable was cut on Sunday.
This resulted in an internet fibre outage affecting users in the Tauriko and The Lakes area.
Tuatahi First Fibre chief network officer Lyndon Templeton said a civil construction contractor undertaking work on Cambridge Rd accidentally struck a feeder cable.
The outage happened about 10pm with about 2000 residential services impacted, including 260 business connections.
“Our crews have been on site through the night. The damaged fibre cables have now been removed, and new cables are being installed and jointed today,” Templeton said.
“Unfortunately, due to the scale of the damage, there was no option for a temporary repair.
“Restoration work is progressing and we expect services to be gradually restored during the course of today.
“We understand this is disruptive and appreciate the patience of affected residents and businesses while urgent repairs are completed.”
