Police say a deadly crash in Auckland was fuelled by high speed.

A car was seen speeding down Dominion Road in Mount Roskill at 1.30 this morning.

The vehicle wasn't pursued - but police say the driver lost control at high speed, rolled and hit power poles.

The driver died at the scene and the road remains closed.

The crash comes as the city remains at alert level four and people are being told to stay at home.
