Fire crews are rushing to Hamilton airport after receiving reports of a light aircraft with landing gear problems.
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said the crews were expected to arrive at the airport at 11am.
It is understood the aircraft is currently in a holding pattern near the airport.
The fire teams were called just after 10.30 this morning.
Airport chief executive Mark Morgan confirmed a plane was circling near the airport with reports of landing gear trouble.
"The control tower is working with the pilot to determine the procedure and landing from here," he said.
They would be working to understand what the landing gear issue was, whether it can be remedied by the pilot and whether the plane can land, he said.
This would take place while the emergency services teams gathered at the airport as a "preventative measure", he said.
Morgan said he had no further information, however, as his operations team was busy dealing with the incident.
