Motorists were left baffled last week as a person casually took an electric scooter for a joyride across the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
In a clip shared to Facebook by another road user, a man can be seen travelling on the busy Northern Motorway towards Auckland’s North Shore.
The rider has a black bag looped around the bars of the scooter, driving narrowly between traffic and the edge of the bridge as motorists watch on in disbelief.

The scooter rider, decked out in shorts and T-shirt, was not wearing a helmet and appeared to have listening devices in his ears.
Reports of the December 18 incident were first made last week, but police were unable to locate the rider after dispatching a motorways unit.
“Electric scooters should not be on the motorway network given the safety risks this poses to the rider and other motorists”, a spokesperson said.
In a similar episode earlier this year, an e-scooter user was captured by dashcam on Auckland’s Southern Motorway.
The rider was slowly travelling only metres from high-speed traffic and held up motorists behind them as they entered the motorway at the Gillies Ave on-ramp in February.

The Herald understood the rider exited at Khyber Pass Rd and continued on to Newton Rd.
