Thieves have stolen a septic waste truck from The Glen in Dunedin.

The truck went missing in the early hours of this morning and Southern Police are appealing to the public for information.

There has been a confirmed sighting of the truck in Oamaru just before lunchtime today and police believe they're heading north.

The vehicle is a 1986 Nissan Atlas with a bright blue cab and bright yellow tank.

The tank has "Barry Dell Plumbing" written on it in black.
