Police have released a further appeal to the public after an unexplained death in Devonport on New Year’s Day after an unidentified group is believed to have used the pool at the incident’s address.

Emergency services were called to 9 Kerr St about 11pm on January 1 where one person was found dead.

An autopsy was carried out on January 3 and police had previously asked for help from the community, particularly those who might have dashcam or CCTV footage.

Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe said the police investigation is ongoing, with enquiries to date indicating a group of people may have visited the address and used the pool, including one adult and at least two children.

“We do not believe these people were present at the address at the time of the death,” Pascoe said, “however we are asking that they come forward to enable Police to confirm their movements and any observations they may have made.”

Pascoe urged anyone who might know the identities of the group to contact Police on 105 and quote the file number 260102/0177.

Neighbours told the Herald they understood the property’s owners were a couple in their 60s who were not home at the time of the incident, with one believing the owners were on holiday on Waiheke.

Another neighbour said the street was a tight-knit community where “everybody knows everybody,” while one who wished to remain anonymous said they did not hear anything out of the ordinary other than the sound of a fire engine about midnight.

Police were seen on Kerr St the day after the incident chatting with neighbours and stationed in front of the home.
