Covid-19: Four cases in MIQ while Melbourne records new community cases

There are four new Covid cases to report in managed isolation today.

The four travellers all flew from India via Qatar and landed in Auckland - where they are doing their quarantine - on May 22. They tested positive on day zero.

Three of the four cases were from the same bubble, the Ministry of Health said.

Today's update comes as the Victorian Government said there were two likely new cases of the infection in Melbourne this morning.

The ministry said it was aware of the Melbourne reports and "we expect to be able to provide a further update later today".

Health officials in the Australian city have just revealed the "likely" new cases.

The Victorian State Government says officials have confirmed two people who are connected are likely to be infected by the virus.

Initial public health actions are being put in place while both infected people isolate and were undertaking fresh tests.

The two people live in the city's northern suburbs.

A full investigation is underway into the results.

It comes after Victoria's chief health officer Brett Sutton issued a warning on Friday about a 'worrying' situation in Melbourne's northern suburbs.

Traces of Covid were last Thursday picked up in wastewater in the Epping and Wollert areas, almost three weeks after the city reported a positive case from a man who flew in from India.

On Friday Professor Sutton warned anyone experiencing symptoms to get tested.

"This detection is of note because there are public exposure sites in the area relating to the Wollert case, who has been isolating in a health hotel outside the catchment," he said.

"Out of an abundance of caution, anyone who has been to any exposure sites has to get tested and isolate."
