Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Dr Ashley Bloomfield provided an update on Covid-19 in the community and permitted travel for Auckland. 

  • There are 8 new cases of Covid-19 in the community, 7 are known contacts of an existing cases 
  • Person at Waitakere Hospital who presented with Covid and is the currently unlinked case 
  • There are 3 active sub clusters, down from four 
  • A positive  
  • Five members of Waitakere ED have been stood down, and 8 patients are being treated as contacts. 
  • There is a positive wastewater test result in Tauranga from September 23. Further samples taken from wider nearby area and results expected on Thursday. Unexpected results can be due to recovering cases, and Bloomfield is asking people in the greater Tauranga to get a test. 
  • Any workers travelling from Auckland to Tauranga should check they are up to date with testing. 
  • A request has been made for permitted workers over the next two weeks, regardless of symptoms, to get 2 tests at least five days apart - especially in construction, hospitality and retail sectors. 
  • Bloomfield shouted out 12-19 year olds for their leadership in getting the vaccine. 
  • People can delay moving house, starting a new job or tertiary education for so long, Ardern said. 
  • From11:59pm tonight, people will be able to travel from Auckland into a level 2 environment if they are relocating permanently, if they have shared caregiving arrangements, if they are returning from alert level 3 to an alert level 2 environment, People need a test 72 hours before departure. 
  • People with shared caregivers need a test within 7 days of each crossing of the Auckland border, People need to carry proof of reason to travel and must not be sick. 
  • Tertiary students need to get in touch with their provider for proof. 
  • Another pressure point in Covid response is MIQ, Ardern said. We have tried to make the system fairer with the 'lobby system', Ardern said. Tonight further rooms are being released between 5 - 6pm. 3800 rooms to be released and booked for Oct, Nov and Dec.
