All Black Jordie Barrett has proposed to his longtime girlfriend Alice Marshall.
The 28-year-old shared the news on his Instagram page with a photo of a smiling Marshall holding up her left hand with an engagement ring.
The post quickly became inundated with comments from well-wishers, including from family members, teammates and colleagues.
Ardie Savea’s wife Saskia commented, “Congratulations team!!” and Barrett’s teammate Leroy Carter said, “Congrats team unreal”. “Congratulations my man” added Sonny Bill Williams.
Barrett popped the question days before the All Blacks embark on their Grand Slam tour which kicks off in Chicago against Ireland next Sunday.
The midfielder last year signed a deal with New Zealand Rugby through to the 2028 season which included a sabbatical in Ireland where he played for Leinster before returning for the All Blacks season.
“I didn’t know what to expect,” Barrett said, reflecting on his Irish stint.
“No one before me had done it for quite some time. Dan [Carter] was the last but no one had gone for an Irish or Leinster experience so I was walking out into deep water at the start.
“It exceeded my expectations and what I wanted to get out of it.”
