The New Zealand Vet Association has raised concerns over the number of dog attacks in the country.
It comes after two women were attacked by dogs in Invercargill.
NZVA head of veterinary services Callum Irvine says people who've made a decision to have a dog, need to take responsibility for that animal.
"They need to provide adequate socialisation for those puppies from a young age, and ensure that they're needs are met for the life of the dog," he says.
