Concerns have been raised that not enough money has been put aside to get resource consent for the Wellington Airport runway extension.
An update on the extension has been given to the council's Economic Growth and Arts Committee.
Councillor Iona Pannett raised concerns over the potential costs of getting a resource consent on what's a complicated proposal.
She said the airport originally asked for $1 million from the council for the consent, then had to come back and ask for another $2 million, which is why Pannett has "concerns about the budget for legal processes. If they don't have they money budgeted correctly, then the airport essentially is going to have to pay for it."
Pannett said there's a risk getting consent could cost a lot more than the $6 million or so predicted.
"If we use the flyover as a benchmark, that costs taxpayers over ten million dollars. So if the costs do go up, who's going to pay for them?"
