Christchurch residents are piling into class actions, before insurers get the upper hand on their earthquake claims.
The Limitations Act provides a defence to insurers against paying out on claims from incidents more than six years old.
People in Canterbury have been promised the Act wouldn't come into effect before tomorrow.
But because it's untested, each insurance company is taking its own interpretation.
Shine Lawyers managing director Andrew Hooker said it's left a lot of people nervous about where they stand.
He said Shine has begun about 50 proceedings in the past week, from Cantabrians claiming their insurers or EQC have botched their home repairs.
