Christchurch City Council's goal of being transparent and approachable could be taken up a notch if the deputy mayor gets her way.
Vicki Buck is suggesting an "open mic" session at council meetings, where a person could speak for a couple of minutes on any topic they liked, without it having to be on the agenda.
She believes her fellow councillors would get right behind the idea.
"We've worked with these councils now for a year and they love interacting with the public.
"It's by the best fun being a councillor."
Vicki Buck says the more accessible the council is to residents, the more engaged the community can be in the city's future.
