A Facebook page promising to name and shame vandals and thieves in the Christchurch suburb of New Brighton is gaining in popularity.

Over 1100 people have liked the "New Brighton Trouble Makers" page which posts pictures of young people who have been causing trouble in the community.

New Brighton Business and Landowners Association manager Paul Zaanen says it's just a small number of youth causing problems.

But the page shows locals want better for their suburb.

"As, I guess, expectation levels keep rising in Brighton that's a real positive, you know, that people aren't prepared to live in an area that is degraded."
