Scenes of frustration and anxiety in Christchurch's Cathedral Square this afternoon.
Bishop Victoria Matthews called an emergency media standup in the Square to refute Gerry Brownlee's claims this week the Government offered the church a 25 million dollar deal to restore the building.
Members of the public rushed to join the media scrum, desperate for their own answers over the city's crumbling centrepiece.
The Bishop said Mr Brownlee's claims of a 25 million dollar offer of Government help are incorrect.
The church said a decision over the Cathedral's fate will be out in the next six months.
