UPDATED 12.45pm:Â A disciplinary committee hearing is underway into the man whose company engineered the ill-fated CTV building, that collapsed in the February earthquake killing 115 people.
The Chartered Professional Engineers hearing is discussing a complaint that Alan Reay should have declared his role in the design and construction of the CTV building when he applied for registration after the quake.
Reay is present at the hearing, alongside family members of those that died in the building.
Meanwhile, a Christchurch man who lost his wife in the CTV collapse is glad the engineer whose firm designed the building is being held to account for something.
CTV widower Dr Maan Alkaisi believes Mr Reay fell short of the standards expected of engineers.
"You expect them to be honest, to be be professional, to respect their organisation."
Maan Alkaisi hopes the hearing sends a strong message to young engineers about appropriate ways to behave.
The hearing is expected to take three days.
If the complaint, laid by the Institute of Professional Engineers, is upheld the committee will take submissions on an appropriate punishment.
