Corrections has confirmed the Christchurch Men's Prison director has lost his job.

Regional Commissioner Ben Clark says following an employment investigation, John Roper won't be returning to his role as Prison Director, and his employment with the department has ended.

This comes after serious allegations into specific security matters at the prison were raised.

Ben Clark says the review identified a number of substandard practices, including use of cell phones and covert audio devices.

He says two senior managers remain subject to employment investigations.
