America's Cup fans are expected in droves for today's parade in Christchurch, despite the weather.

Strong cold southerlies with sleety showers are predicted, with snow about the hill suburbs.

Christchurch NZ parade spokesperson Adrienne Noon said fans need to wrap up warm, wear waterproofs and come early.

"Just make sure you've got the layers on. The team are very much looking forward to meeting the crowd here in Christchurch."

Noon said Team New Zealand's due in the CBD from midday despite the bad weather.

"The team are very, very keen to move forward. They really want to meet the people of Christchurch and Canterbury and celebrate their achievements so it would have to be a very severe weather situation for us not to proceed."

Team New Zealand moves on to Dunedin tomorrow.
